Spring and Summer are just around the corner, and with them come some special considerations you should make about your HVAC system. If your system gets clogged with debris, it won’t work at its maximum efficiency, and it will require more energy — and more money — to cool your home. Here are some tips for keeping it clean, inside and out!
CHECK YOUR OUTSIDE UNIT
A/C units tend to blend in and not cause too much concern, but give yours a thorough once-over each season. Look for fallen leaves, twigs, or overgrown grass or vegetation that could be blocking it up. Remove what you can see, and ask a pro to take a look at the rest.
INDOOR AIR DUCTS AND FILTERS
Dirt, dust, insulation, and other grime can block your air ducts, making them use extra energy to push cool air past the blockages. Air filters should be changed regularly. Depending on the kind you use, the time between changes can be 1 month to 6 months. Ask your HVAC pro about installing long-lasting HEPA filters.
